Update on Covanta Energy Resource Recovery Facility
I would like to thank the Hunter Mill District residents for your continued patience as Fairfax County and Covanta Fairfax work to get the Energy Resource Recovery Facility in Lorton, Virginia back on line. The facility has been closed since February 2, 2017 due to an extensive fire.
I-66, West Ox Transfer Station has had a significant increase in trash and recyclables since the closing of the Covanta Fairfax facility. It is currently transferring approximately 100 truckloads of trash per day to a landfill in King George County, Virginia. Unfortunately, with the increase in the workload, some delay in processing has occurred and additional wait times for residents.
Your continued patience is greatly appreciated.
Current projection for bringing service back on-line at Covanta is September, 2017. It is expected that at that time, operations will return to normal.
